Normal Sounds and Visuals during Operation
- Slight ticks or cracks are normal operation during heating operation. The indoor unit is made of plastic and the expansion and contraction of the plastic is what causes those noises
- A quiet hiss once and awhile can occur inside. This is the reversing valve on the machine or possibly a drop in the internal systems compression. This is normal opeperation.
- Slightly louder than usual noise coming from the outdoor unit with no heat coming from the inside unit is a defrost cycle, nothing to be concerned about there
- What appears to be steam or fog coming off the outdoor unit is normal. This is the difference in air coming from the outdoor unit and the humidity that gets extracted
- A slight hiss from the outdoor unit is normal as well as this is a drop in compression of the refrigeration system or the reversing valve kicking in
Items that would not be normal are:
- Flashing lights on the indoor unit, see this video for what to do
- Unit not turning on, follow the same procedure first in this video
- If the unit is not producing any heat what so ever, but does appear to be on check this video first about set point
