Importance of Digging out your Heat Pump post Snow Storm
With every snow storm it is essential that you dig out around your heat pump to maintain proper air flow.
If you are not going to be home for a period of time and you see that snow is forecasted then it is best to shut your system down and turn on your backup heating to avoid any possible damage to your outdoor heat pump unit.
Damage occurs when snow is allowed to drift and build up around the front, sides and even back of your outdoor heat pump unit.
Here is an example of what happens if the unit is not dug out.
The successful operation of your heat pump requires air flow to be clear from front to back so the heat can be extracted. When air flow is restricted a couple of things happened.
- You won’t be able to extract enough heat from the lower volume of air the heat pump is moving
- Your fan motor can actually burn out if it is starved off from air too much
It is the home owners responsibility to ensure your heat pump stays clear of snow.
To help we do sell heat pump covers if they interest you for your unit.
